Since them dozens of civilians have been killed in bombing raids and targeted murders while thousands have fled to live in caves in the Nuba mountains. The SPLA was able to react swiftly and has surrounded and cut off Khartoum's troops in numerous towns holding more areas than they ever did during the past few decades of fighting. Their leader Governor Aziz has pledged to work with other rebel groups from Darfur to the Blue Nile to bring the war from Nuba to Khartoum.
